NCDC Expansion : Driving Economic Empowerment in Cooperatives

The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) is a statutory institution under the Ministry of Cooperation. Since its starting in 1963, it has run several key initiatives related to agricultural production, processing, marketing, storage and import-export. However, under its present framework, it cannot extend direct financial assistance to other institutes working in Co-op sector but not registered as Coop societies. NCDC, with its Amendment Bill 1926, is an important step bridging the gap by enabling financial aid and helping cooperative sector.

From the perspective of the development of India’s cooperative sector, the NCDC Amendment Bill, 2026 should be regarded as an important and welcome step. The Bill contains several important provisions aimed at providing financial support not only to cooperative societies but also to other non-cooperative institutions that assist them, making the capital required for their development easily available, and enabling the entire cooperative sector to play a more effective role in the modern economy....(Read the full article in the September 2026 issue)
